A 'Jordan is Palestine' propagandist was a Haganah terrorist who later isolated Palestinian nationalism by supporting separate treaties between Israel and neighboring countries
Palestine national identity delegitimizer H.Z. Bornstein pushed the “Jordan is Palestine” ‘pro-Israel’ propaganda/hasbara talking point, in the 1990 letter below, until Israel negotiated a separate peace treaty, that ignored justice for Palestinians in their relationship with Israel, the year after the 1993 Oslo Accords.
To the Editor:
Kamel S. Abu Jaber, director of the Jordan Center for Middle Eastern Studies, states that Jordan was established in 1921 (''Once More, the U.S. Misreads the Arab World,'' Op-Ed, Aug. 10). That is not true. Eastern Palestine, the province of Transjordan, was part of the League of Nations mandate ruled by Britain until 1946. In that year, Britain unilaterally granted independence to the area, which was named by its ruler the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. King Abdullah had wanted to name it the Hashemite Kingdom of Palestine, but the British talked him out of it. In 1950, the country was renamed Jordan. (Just look at the postage stamps of those years.) Mr. Abu Jaber would also do well to remember that it was the West that caused the eventual independence of 21 Arab states liberated from Ottoman rule.
H. Z. BORNSTEIN
New York, Aug. 15, 1990
A version of this letter appears in print on September 2, 1990, on Page 4004012 of the National edition with the headline: Why Moscow Must Walk the Tightrope in Iraq; Jordan's Emergence.
H.Z. Bornstein’s distortions of history were debunked here.
H.Z. Bornstein served in the Haganah, per his obituary, making him a Jewish terrorist or material supporter of terrorism albeit with no law in effect at the time to prosecute him later for violations of.
Harry, or Heinz by birth, was the son of Artur and Helene Bornstein (nee Goldberg). Artur took Harry to Palestine in 1935 where Harry attended the Pittman School of Commerce and served in the Haganah.
Lack of applicability of any enforceable laws in effect, at the time of events, was also exploited by the settler-colonialism of pre-1948 zionists. The ‘local civil authority power vacuum’ and chaos in the transition of authority resulted from a similar historical accident to Britain and France’s occupation and disposition of territory they acquired in war, before the 1949 Geneva Convention superseded Britain’s Mandate over Palestine, relinquished in 1948 to the zionist (for Jews-only by Jews-only of Jews-only) government. Chaos, and mass movement of civilians to protect themselves from combat and terrorism, ensued in the transition of power from the UK British to the Jewish-only government.
Resentment and grievance at perceived injustice that UN created particular agencies to help Palestine refugees like UNRWA, UN Conciliation Commission for Palestine and the Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs-OPT
Back in 2004 the Geneva Accord was attacked for "lack of clarity" on Palestinian right of return while the attackers ignored compensation for lost property. Records are documented by the UN Conciliation Commission for Palestine and could be accessed to ascertain family relationships for compensating heirs of refugees and described in a book by Michael Fischbach called "Records of Dispossession.
while the richest of the Jewish community in many countries were forced to privately fundraise, at a global level, to help holocaust survivors by maintaining the claims conference on Jewish material claims against Germany is the actual 'beef,’ or root, of allegations of UN 'bias' against Israel (zionism).
Human Rights Commission and Council, Security Council and General Assembly resolutions are a distraction, or at least the 'fecal icing on a urine cake’ in the view of Claims Conference leaders, funders and allies, from the fact that Jews had to help themselves while Palestinians received help from IGOs and NGOs.
The issue activism pivot
Harry was a dedicated champion of Jewish causes. For many years he served as US Chairman of Jordan is Palestine until the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan. Afterwards he became very active in Justice For Jews, writing articles regularly and promoting the cause all over the world. While in Japan he was very active in the Jewish Community Center of Japan and took on the role of Board Member, Treasurer and President at various times. It was also in Japan where he finally met his wife Yasuko, who he married in London. Throughout his life, he wrote op-eds in defense of Jewish causes and on Middle Eastern affairs which appeared in publications in Tokyo, London, and on occasion The New York Times.
by HZ Bornstein from disseminating ‘Jordan is Palestine’ propaganda, to dividing and diverting Arab state support of Palestinians to separate peace treaties with Israel that ignore Palestinian rights, to justice for Jews (refugees from Arab countries) was what Bornstein could do individually to carry on the messaging of Jewish fundamental dislike of the UN for not helping holocaust survivors and Sephardic (Mizrahi in Hebrew) Jews from Arab countries. Gathering all Jews in one 'historic' homeland also served to create, and maintain, a religious population majority of one faith. That majority continues to serve as the basis for denial of claims (the apartheid analogy to South African treatment of Blacks by the white minority) that Israeli laws do not provide civil legal equality to all of its citizens or all people who are forced to depend on its state (IDF and COGAT) and civil society (KKLI/JNF land management and Jewish Agency for immigration) institutions that control freedom of movement of people and goods.
