Behind the Liz Cheney and Skullduggery podcast news virus demonizing Rep Rashida Tlaib...
Jared Kushner, designated by his FIL (father-in-law) 'President' Don Trump to moderate Israel-Palestine peace negotiations, is about to introduce, in June 2019, a new plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace, that won't say 2 state solution.
The Skullduggery podcast became the source of the latest Republican news virus, not viral news, of weaponized outrage at what they allege to be extremism to distort, single out, demonize and delegitimize support for a one state solution. The distortion of what 'one state solution' means is done to move the 'political center' or 'Washington consensus' closer to actual extremism of a one state reality to win elections for 'mainstream' Republicans. The phrase "calming feeling" was exploited by R-WY Congressmember Liz Cheney to rally voters she perceives as a base to run for an open WY US Senate seat in 2020 currently held by R-WY Mike Enzi. A debunking of Liz Cheney's attempt to piggyback on 'President' Don Trump's Islamophobia was written here. Weaponizing hate for bigoted ends is the same thing (gas-lighting or hypocrisy) Republicans accuse Democrats of.
The 'controversy-startup' to make Representative Rashida Tlaib more known for controversy surrounding, than for the content of her policies, also gets clicks for algorithm-placed ads. Those ads replace subscription and single copy sales as people cut out paying directly, ISP bills are indirect payment, for sources of news.
By Wednesday, Rep. Tlaib D-MI was allowed to chair House floor proceedings.
Republicans, like Liz Cheney R-WY, are trying to divide members of the Democratic House majority caucus on BDS tactics used against one country (Israel) while supporting the same tactics against other countries (Russia, Iran, Democratic Peoples' Republic of -North- Korea, Cuba, Sudan for starters). Changing policy to comport with American (USA) values in exchange for either, or both, economic cooperation and military aid is the same goal in use of the BD(S)anctions tactics toward countries subjected to the tactic. Cheney is trying to divide the Democratic majority by building Democratic support for a floor vote on a non-binding resolution (HR 246) by Rep Brad Schneider D-IL. HR 246 continues to support the 2 state solution as a final status outcome to Israeli-Palestinian negotiations moderated by the USA State Department. HR 246 is an alternative to the criminal penalties and 20 year maximum prison terms, in S. 1 and HR 336, for individuals leading organizations promoting the use of BDS tactics against businesses complicit with Israeli military (security) control preempting Palestinian civil control on lands where the Israeli preemption abuses Palestinian human rights. Those penalties in S. 1 and HR 336 mirror Israeli laws that have been used to deny entry to Israel (for up to 10 years) of civilians based on their support for Palestinian rights, sometimes ascertained by compelling people to reveal their social media accounts to Israeli border police at the primary entry point to Israel Ben Gurion airport in Lod outside Tel Aviv.
Republicans are trying to divide Democrats against BDS and for a 2 state solution
In hopes of resolving the issue, House Democratic leaders are seeking to build support behind a bipartisan resolution authored by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) that condemns BDS and calls for a negotiated, two state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"We're getting asked about it all the time, so I think it's really important to bring it to the floor," said Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, a vocal pro-Israel Democrat.
"This has always been an issue with strong bipartisan support and strong Democratic support. I don't think anything's changed."
"I'm a strong supporter of Israel, but I think we need a healthy debate about what's happening under the Netanyahu administration in Israel," said Rep. Ann Kuster (D-N.H.). Republicans, she added, "have a political agenda that's now out of the closet that's designed to divide our caucus, and this is not a political issue."
But if Democratic leaders don't act, they risk having a group of frustrated Democrats joining with Republicans to hijack the House floor - an embarrassing prospect for Pelosi and Hoyer. According to two Democrats familiar with the behind-the-scenes talks, House leaders have been told that if there is no vote before the summer recess, members could dig into the House legislative toolbox to force action. The Democrats spoke on condition of anonymity to freely talk about private discussions. One option would be to join the Republican discharge petition, which would force a vote if 218 members sign it. Another would use, potentially for the first time, the House "consensus calendar"- a new procedure for bipartisan bills meant to provide for consideration of broadly supported legislation that is opposed by the majority party leadership.
that the coming Kushner plan won't even call a two state solution. Limited autonomy is the new framing by the Republican executive branch. Limited autonomy has been the de facto one state reality since 1993 in spite of renewed negotiations in 2000, 2007, 2009 and 2013-14. Equal rights for both Israelis and Palestinians has not been provided because of the preemption of Palestinian civil control by Israeli security control in the West Bank and Gaza strip. How to revive 2 state negotiations with Republican
[Sheldon] Adelson’s steadfast and occasionally controversial positions on Israel’s national security have also increased his profile in the national media and provided fodder for the opposition.
He opposes a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, once calling it a “stepping stone for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people.”
opposition is the problem Jared Kushner, Democratic elected leadership in the House and Senate as well as state by state supporters, and civil society NGOs 'on the ground/streets' are trying to grapple with. Some of the opposition to equal rights, manifested in either one or 2 states, was from Democratic elected officials on a single issue basis (progressive except for Palestine).
A rights-based approach to a final status peace over a 2 or 1 state approach is what Palestinians and their supporters chose with BDS tactics as nonviolent leverage. Don't criticize progressive Democratic members about their support for BDS tactics. Unify in favor of equal rights for all faiths. It is a better framing of what a final status peace could look like than the reality, since the 1993 Oslo Accords, of limited autonomy for one side (Palestinians) and security for the other side (Israelis).
