Exploring the American Progressive Movement & Israel
Many in the American Jewish community, including Jews on the political left, have grown concerned about the direction and intensity of the debate over the Israeli-Palestinian issue in progressive spaces. Some claim rampant antisemitism is to blame, while others place all the blame on Israel. The truth is obviously more complex.

Oren Jacobson said the quiet part out loud about his goals for Project Shema here as he was launching Project Shema. Oren Jacobson's article and the Brandeis University master's thesis titled "The Americanization of Zionism in the 21st Century by Project Shema Development and Organizing Director Eli Cohn-Postell
both betray the true goals of Project Shema listening sessions. More stalemate and division within the American Jewish community and more violence in the OPT and Israel will result. Resistance to changing that status quo will be suppressed with the IHRA antisemitism working definition, with 7 of 11 problematic examples, twisting political disagreement into prejudice to expel students and fire people from employment. Anti-BDS laws and executive orders will further create a double standard where boycotts are allowed only against targets within countries (Walgreens for not dispensing mifepristone in all states) but not to change the policies of other countries such as Israel. BDS tactics are being used to change policies of Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Russia. No one questions those 4 countries right to exist. The BDS tactics only target civil society institutions and businesses to change the policies of the governments of Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Russia.
The "progressives" Project Shema is intending to persuade by more ‘listening’ to ‘both sides’ are here. Arguments over alternatives to a two state solution or, how Jews should support the right to exist of a Palestinian state bordering Israel to revive that possibility of a final status conflict resolution, are not what Project Shema employees and contractors who facilitate discussions are willing to listen to. Project Shema founders and its JCPA and JCRC partners also aren't willing to listen to peoples' views regarding nonviolent and narrowly targeted BDS tactics and placing binding conditions on future US military aid to Israel.
The individuals in the streets March 12, 2023 protesting Bezalel Smotrich who answered the action call of Progressive Israel Network member organizations shouldn't listen to Project Shema by attending the March 19, 2023 JCRC partner event.
